Recognizing Musical Evolutions
From 1979 to 1981, I began recognizing modern music. Beginning with Walking on the Moon from The Police's Regatta de Blanc and Cars from Gary Numan's Pleasure Principle, I noticed something else beyond street hockey and firecrackers. I already owned Kiss' Destroyer and an 8 track of their Double Platinum, but Mr. Stanley and Mr. Simmons' franchise never felt authentic to me. And then in 1981, like an exclamation point ending an excited sentence, I heard Urgent from Foreigner's 4. There are few sensations that exist like taking notice of musical evolution in a single track or an entire album.
